Vordul Mega 2nd LP Info

on the right, obviously.

VORDUL MEGA SET TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE SOLO-LP, MEGAGRAPHITTI, ON 8-19-08

MEGAGRAPHITTI FEATURES APPEARANCES BY VAST AIRE (2 CANNIBAL OX REUNION TRACKS) AND PRODUCTION FROM EL-P, BRONZE NAZARETH & SID ROAMS
Vordul Mega is one half of Cannibal Ox, a group that despite releasing only one album (2002’s essential classic Cold Vein) remains amongst the most heralded rap groups of this millennium. After the titanic success of The Cold Vein, Vordul began work on a solo album, then suspended that record after signing a deal with Nature Sounds for what would become his first solo LP, 2004’s Revolution of Yung Havoks. While his name was now cemented in the annals of underground rap, Vordul was still struggling against the poverty and deprivation, the despair and hopelessness that hang in every corner of the ghetto. A Harlem resident since birth, he still lives and breathes uptown, the source of both his inspiration and his personal struggles.

Of course, Vordul also remained a much sought after collaborator in the underground, appearing on Wu-Tang Meets Indie Culture, Vast Aire’s Look Mom, No Hands and Dueces Wild, Aesop Rock’s Bazooka Tooth, DJ Ese’s Side: Two, among many, many others. Vordul’s association with Backwoodz Studioz goes back to 2003's cult classic Camouflage and has remained steady over the years with Vordul playing a major part in the Reavers super-group as well as releases by the Super Chron Flight Brothers. So it was only natural that they come together and make Megagraphitti a concrete reality; after years of working together and stashing away tracks. Vordul's heartfelt rhymes and stream-of-consciousness flow combined with top-notch production that matches the intensity of its subject matter is the foundation of Megagraphitti.

Although Vordul has never sought out the spotlight, he has also never stopped making music, or working on this album (which has seen many different titles and incarnations over the years) and all the while, Vordul laid down tracks for what would eventually become Megagraphitti (which will be released on 8-19-08). The album became a chronicle of sorts, telling the story of a boy growing into a man inside a ghetto that is determined to dehumanize him; while also spanning and documenting the breadth of an era in the New York underground. The result is an extremely personal record made with the blood, sweat and tears of an artist who has gazed into the abyss and come back to tell the story, as Vordul relays “Megagraphitti is me trying to capture the last six years of my life on record, show where I've been at and where I am trying to go. I put it all out there and just tried to make the record that is true to me and what I've been through."

Featuring production from El-P, Bronze Nazareth, Sid Roams, Bond, Ravage as well as features from Vast Aire, Tommy Gunn (Monsta Island Czars), Billy Woods and the Invizzbl Men (Marq Spekt & Karniege), Backwoodz Studioz is proud to present Vordul Mega’s sophomore solo-LP Megagraphitti.

the POE BOY post

poe boy is home to a few names that should stay imprinted in your memory core: ross, brisco, gunplay, torch, flo rida.
carol city cartel.
cancel christmas cocksuckers.
closed casket capital.
cashin checks constant.
custom cars and cycles.
canibus cups champions.
triple c's.......
if you don't know what i'm talkin about you either live under a rock or write off southern hip hop (especially from miami) as soon as you hear the accent. in all honesty... fuck ya'll.

Carol City Cartel is made up of three mc's: Rick Ross, Gunplay, and Torch.

everyone knows ross' story.

gunplay chooses not to tell his story.

and torch is an ex-NY nigga that flocked south for the late 90's.

there's nothing to say other than this is what Miami hip-hop has been since 1999. almost every rapper that's attempted a shot at a hit single in miami have sounded like ross, gunplay, torch, and bris... there's no comparison when trying to find a better sound outta Miami...

I put together a compilation of around 28 tracks from different tapes that have stood out to me and should to other... you can download the whole compilation in one file below:

pussy ass JR BOY

this is some of the funniest shit i've seen... the story behind it is gold. so i'ma paste a few words from S.U.C. dj wrecka:
i dj'd a pokey show last weekend in killen, this dude (jr boy) was supposed to perform before big pokey, but pokey decided he wanted to go on earlier than scheduled so jr boy got cut out the mix, so after pokeys set, he goes outside to chop it up with the fans and all, and jr boy is pissed cuz he didnt get to rap, so he runs across the street, gets the cops, and tells em that certain cars have guns in them, he pointed out like 6 or 7 different cars. pullin some fake ass ho shit

all of it is on tape too, so it will be on myspace and youtube shortly
this dude was also bootleggin VIP tickets to the pokey show
wasnt even no damn VIP tickets...

word of advice for any promoter or anyone that handles booking... stay away from this snitch ass crackhead
homeboy in the wife beater made jr boy EAT THAT MIC!

damu the fudgemunk

alright so im going through albums and artists/producers i haven't listened to yet and came across a video over at vinylpops. damu the fudgemunk is the producer behind Y Society, a hip hop duo from the Washington D.C. area. sometimes he'll just set up his mpc on the sidewalk and start jamming out right there. originally he was the dj for Panacea (another group he was affiliated with)... anyway, check out the video and the track at the end of the post.
after a free lesson in sampling with an mpc and turntable, i've started a fund to buy me an akai mpc.

here's another one of damu makin beats for album interludes:

check out the tracks from his free digital beat tape with production coming from 2004 to 2006:

download it here.

this shit called def---squad proceed to rock your project

I was going thru comments on the unkut.com blog and ran across a topic concerning keith murray and redman live shows... haha the read is funny...
Keith Murray, Redman and Jamal did a concert in Waukegan IL back in the mid 90s. There hadn’t beena hip hop show of that caliber in town in a long time so it was a pretty big deal (all the shows go to chicago). I remember I was at work at Target the night before the show and on my walkie talkie I hear all sorts of security calls and I’m like “what the hell is going on”. I walk around and see this three dudes who are on some “new york shit” and then I’m like “whoa” that’s Redman. I had just interviewed early that year so I went up and spoke to him (and let security know they could chill out).

Anyway, ath the show the head security was on some serious b.s.. He was being over aggressive with how he was checking people coming the door, he was yelling at everybody and just trying to exert his “i’m in charge” attitude. I caught him a few time raising his voice to red, keith, and jamal. This went on all night so all those dudes were in bad moods. When they went on stage something went wrong in the front row, I couldn’t see cause I always play the back. Next thing I know Keith Murray drops his mic and swings his mic stand in to the crowd. That starts an all out riot. People are fighting everywhere. Girls are running and screaming. Police come spraying tear gas….it was a mess.

All I remember though is a point thru all the chaos seeing Redman sort of 1/2 way running and fighting his way thru a crowd of people from the police and I swear he is laughing and I’m like, “this dude is crazy”…ha.

We never had another rap concert in waukegan again (with any major artists) or least not for long time. That skating rink closed soon after from a ongoing series of fights.

Red and Keith were supposed to do a concert in Toronto at the old Varsity Arena downtown in the mid nineties too… As it went we were chilling backstage with Red and Kieth - we had brought the bomb weed for them so they was cool with us, next thing you know right before the show the promotor comes back on some BS and tells them he only has half the money up front and they will get the rest after the show - well Red and Kieth flipped, they went out on stage told the fans there owuld be no concert because the promotor was BS and then proceeded to insoght a riot - Red was trashing the lights and DJ equipment on stage, one of the promotors security guys tried to confront him - he was a pretty big dude too, and Red punched him right in the face with the mic! it was bananas… ANyway a riot broke out people were running everywhere and no concert happened… I left with some of my boys but I found out some of the dudes I know had found Redman and Kieth and they had taken them out for a night in the T-Dot - ofcourse they spent nuff cash on weed to keep them happy but it was worth it to hang with Redman and Murray for a nite… I miss those days…

dj muggs, is the producer behind all the cypress hill albums, and countless other works in hip-hop today. he's received maaaaad praise for his collaborative album with GZA The Genius of Wu-Tang.
you see that nigga up there? you now know who he is if you didn't. he did this:

and, more recently, this:

i had the privilege of askin him a few questions:
1- whatsup with the Soul Assassins?
THE WHOLE SOUL ASSASSINS CREW is doing there thing...music , film , graphics , video , apparel etc

2- other than Dust, do or did you have plans for another solo album?
pretty much the soul assassins are solo records same concept as dust just different beats an rappers as opposed to singers....i have a lot of ideas for different records just not enuff time man

3- what were the firest trees you've seen out there in cali?
B REALS KUSH IS THE BEST CALI WEED EVER
i always figured b-real would have his own plant/strain @ his crib. anyway, everyone should go out and buy his two most recent albums with GZA and Sick Jacken.
